I missed Die Roten Punkte last year and was not going to make the same mistake twice. In this sequel, Astrid has just emerged from rehab ("Don't applaud; I don't have any fun anymore!"), Otto is going through therapy with her, and their dysfunctional interaction, punctuated by excellent tunes with absolutely ridiculous lyrics, is a paean to every overblown, self-absorbed, lovable-train-wreck rock band to entertain us since the genre began.
These two are fantastic "super musicians," whose spoof of '80s punk music is performed with such deadpan earnestness that the show is that much funnier for the solemnity. They're also excellent at responding to the audience, so that a rogue cell phone and a few funny remarks from audience members were dealt with quickly and hilariously.
My only "complaint" with this show is that the music is actually really catchy and tends to stick in your brain. So, when you find yourself walking through Fringe Central a few days later singing to yourself, "Ich nicht bin ein Roboter - I am a lion, rawr!" then you'll probably look fairly ridiculous and draw some raised eyebrows from your friends. You have been warned.
